About Ursa Major+
My name is Amarina, I'm a plus size fashion designer, freelance writer, magazine editor and artist. I am from Toronto, Canada and I recently moved back home after a year in Memphis, Tennessee with my husband and two cat daughters. I highly recommend checking out Memphis, it's an incredible place.
Ten years ago I was searching for a way to empower myself and other women of size, and landed a jewelry apprenticeship with a Toronto designer. This lead to my first line of "plus size jewelry" that featured longer lengths and adjustable chains. I also did a bit of freelance plus size modelling but there wasn’t a lot of work at the time and I shifted my focus to clothing design, my ultimate goal. I went back to college for fashion design and was the first student to create a plus size lingerie line as my final collection.
Ursa Major+ is my online clothing store and I can't wait for it to evolve into a full-blown collection of my own designs. I sell vintage/secondhand duds for babes that are a size 10 and above, often altering and updating pieces to make them even more unique.
Last year I launched Bush, a fashion and lifestyle print magazine that celebrates style makers and magnetic people of all genders, bodies and backgrounds. We successfully beat our Kickstarter goal to get the first issue printed and the second is on it’s way, even bigger and better. It is printed by my little company Bush Publishing, we print feminist comics, stickers, zines and we're working on a body positive coloring book for our next project.
